Hairstyle

In the WANA region's history, hair and hairstyle for both men and women has been an integral part of Wearable Heritage. Elaborate hairstyles, wigs, hairpieces and extensions have been used in this area for over 5000 years. Ancient hair research has become part of my work since 2011 and fieldwork focuses  on pharaonic Egypt. In the subpages under this page you will find more information about my research.

The treatment of hair, gels and fats to strengthen hairstyles and braid ends and perfuming them at the same time are an important element of hairstyle. Apart from the decoration techniques of hair itself (like braids and curls), also jewelry and amulets worn exclusively in hair will be described in these pages.
